			<p><strong><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f6a8.png" alt="🚨" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></strong><strong> If your Daikin heat pump sounds like a helicopter taking off during this Cape Cod cold… don’t ignore it.</strong></p>
<p>We’re seeing this a lot right now across Cape Cod.</p>
<p>On this <strong>Daikin heat pump</strong>, the outdoor fan was actually hitting built-up ice inside the bottom of the condenser.</p>
<p>Here’s why it happens:</p>
<p><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2744.png" alt="❄" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> In heating mode, frost builds up on the outdoor coil</p>
<p><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f501.png" alt="🔁" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> The system goes into defrost and melts that frost</p>
<p><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f4a7.png" alt="💧" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Water drains to the base pan</p>
<p><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f321.png" alt="🌡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Temps drop fast (like they do here on the Cape)…</p>
<p><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f9ca.png" alt="🧊" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> That water refreezes and builds up</p>
<p>After a few cycles, the fan blades start striking the ice.</p>
<p>That loud scraping or banging noise?</p>
<p>That’s your fan motor fighting ice.</p>
<p>If ignored, it can:</p>
<ul>
<li>Crack fan blades</li>
<li>Damage the motor</li>
<li>Cause vibration issues</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>How to prevent it:</strong></p>
<p><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2714.png" alt="✔" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Keep snow cleared around the unit</p>
<p><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2714.png" alt="✔" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Make sure it’s elevated properly above grade</p>
<p><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2714.png" alt="✔" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Ensure proper drainage under the condenser</p>
<p><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2714.png" alt="✔" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Get winter maintenance before peak cold hits</p>
<p>If your system is making unusual noise — shut it off and have it checked before it turns into a bigger repair.</p>
